Prisoners in Africa live under harsh conditions. Ubumi works with basic human rights for inmates and their children in Zambian correctional facilities. We work to support all inmates, but we focus particularly on children aged 0-4, mothers, pregnant women, juveniles, the mentally ill and the seriously ill patients. We support health, including mental health, education and reintegration through advocacy and capacity building of organisations and institutions.
Not only do all human beings have a right to a dignified life, but imprisonment should never be life threatening. Ubumi focuses on the particularly vulnerable in prison - hand in hand with Zambia Correctional Service, civil society partners and the inmates themselves.
